Reading a chart as a ruler: counting points, then pricing them — Pakistan
A chart never shows an amount. It shows prices, and the gap between two of them is a count — of pips or of points, and confusing the two is a tenfold error. Once the count is right, one multiplication turns it into the money that gap is worth at your size.
Subtract the lower price from the higher one and you have a difference in price. Divide it by the step size of the symbol — 0.0001 on most currency pairs, 0.01 on pairs quoted in yen — and you have a count in pips. Multiply that count by money per pip at your size, and you have the amount that distance is worth. Three operations: subtract, divide, multiply. Everything else on a chart is decoration for those three.
One measurement, worked through
Take two prices off the same screen
Say an entry at 1.1000 and a level at 1.0980 where the idea would be wrong. Both come from the chart, both are read to the same number of decimals — mixing a four-decimal read with a five-decimal one is where most bad counts start.
Subtract, then divide by the step
1.1000 − 1.0980 = 0.0020. Divided by 0.0001, that is 20 pips. If the platform quotes a fifth digit, the same gap is 200 points; both descriptions are correct, and only one of them belongs in a sizing formula.
Multiply by money per pip
At 0.01 lots on a dollar-quoted pair a pip is about $0.10, so twenty pips is $2. At 0.10 lots the same distance is $20. The chart did not change between those two readings; the size did.
Run this once per idea and the stop stops being an abstract line. It becomes a figure you have already agreed to, which is exactly what the order of operations asks for at line 2.
Four things on the chart that are not measurements

The last row is the one that costs money. A distance measured to the level you care about is one number; the extra distance the price must cover just to clear the spread is another, and it is added on top before a position is even level. Multiply it by the same money per pip to see it as an amount.

What a correct count still leaves open
- Where the level should have been. Measuring is arithmetic; choosing what to measure to is judgement.
- Whether the price reaches it. A distance is a fact about the chart, not a prediction.
- Whether the exit happens exactly there. In fast conditions a fill can land past the level, which no measurement anticipates.
- What holding costs. An overnight charge is not visible on any chart; it is quoted per symbol and side.
Does a different timeframe change the distance?
No. The candles are grouped differently; the two prices and the gap between them are unchanged.
Which digit do I count on a five-decimal quote?
The fourth for pips. The fifth is a point, and ten of them make one pip.
Is the spread included in the distance I measure?
No — measure to the level, then add the spread separately. It is the head start the position begins with.
Do charts read differently on a demo?
The measuring does not change at all, which is why the count can be practised before any money exists.
What if the pair is quoted in yen?
The step is 0.01, so a gap of 0.20 is 20 pips. Same three operations, different divisor.
Can I read the money value straight off the chart?
Not without a size. A distance is worth nothing until it is multiplied by money per pip at the size being traded.
